Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Planning (Ph.D.)

 

Graduation Requirements

4~7 years required for graduation

Minimum 22 credits required for graduation, not including PhD degree dissertation 12 credits.

1. Required courses "Seminar (1~4)": 4 credits

2. Elective courses: 18 credits

3. The PhD students without urban planning bachelor or master degree are required to take 2 professional practical (/studio) courses of the urban planning master program. The credits of the professional practical courses are not counted in the graduation credits.

 

In order to apply the oral examination for PhD degree dissertation, students must meet the following requirements.

1. Pass the Ph.D. Candidate Qualifying Examination. The examination subjects include two basic subjects, “planning theory” and “planning methodology”, and one professional subject.

2. Publish at least 1 academic article in SSCI journals; or 2 articles in SCI, A&HCI, or TSSCI journals; or, for international students, 2 articles in international journals or 4 articles in international conference proceedings.

3. Pass the English proficiency test, such as TOEFL iBT with the score 79 or above.
